Fun in the Sun - Buttercup Walk 2014

Posted by Vicky Brady on 12 June 2014

We are delighted to announce this year’s Buttercup Walk raised over £30,000 for the RNOH Redevelopment Appeal. We want to say a MASSIVE thank you to everyone who came, contributed and helped raise this amazing amount.

The day was a resounding success and money raised will help fund vital equipment and facilities for the RNOH. Over 400 of you flocked to the hospital to support the Appeal with nearly 200 patients past and present along with their families and friends, taking park in the mile long walk around the hospital’s grounds.

North London born gymnast and Olympic medalist, Max Whitlock kicked off the day with a special performance and 10-year-old Buttercup Walk Hero, Alex McCartney, a patient here at the RNOH opened the walk. Charity Appeal Patron, and former Harry Potter stuntman, David Holmes also showed up to support the day.

Alex, our nominated RNOH Buttercup Walk Hero, who has already raised over £6,000 for the Charity Appeal thanks to his family and friends, said; “I’m really excited to be here and to open this year’s Buttercup Walk – seeing Max’s performance just now was amazing.”

As temperatures soared, families took advantage of the fun filled activities such as children’s rides, live music from Fox River Conspiracy, delicious food, and a variety of stalls.

Peter Calder, Chairman of The Buttercup Walk said: “It’s been another successful Buttercup Walk and it’s great to see so many of my patients and lots of happy faces. Our fundraising team has worked tirelessly to ensure that today was a success and we’d really like to thank the hundreds of people who came along today to support the RNOH and its charity. I’d like to give special thanks to Alex for being our Buttercup Walk Hero and to Max Whitlock for putting on such an incredible performance for us. The money raised is going to help make a real difference to the hospital and the patients that are treated here. We look forward to doing it all again next year. ”
