Downing Street celebrates RNOH Charity fundraisers

Thanks to their epic fundraising for RNOH Charity and heartfelt dedication to patients, four RNOH colleagues were invited to a reception at 10 Downing Street in July to celebrate the 78th birthday of the NHS and to recognise the extraordinary work of NHS staff.

Consultant surgeons Mr Hanny Anwar, Mr Roozbeh Shafafy, Mr John Afolayan and specialist ortho-oncology physiotherapist Johnson Gbayike represented RNOH, alongside patient and RNOH Charity Ambassador Matt Forde, who reported that it was a fantastic day.

You might remember that these three spinal surgeons recently trekked 100km through harsh conditions across the Sahara Desert, raising awareness and funds for RNOH Charity. The intrepid team raised £12,000 and we can’t thank them enough. It’s one of the many outstanding contributions that RNOH staff commit to for us and teams continue to sign up for more. Johnson was nominated for his exceptional contribution to patient care and innovation within cancer rehabilitation, for which he was awarded the prestigious Tricia Moate Award by Sarcoma UK.

Johnson said: “It was inspiring to meet people from different parts of the NHS, all united by a shared commitment to delivering the best possible care for patients.

“I was honoured to represent Therapies and RNOH at such a special occasion. The invitation reflects not only my own journey but also the incredible support, teamwork and opportunities I have received from colleagues across the Trust.

“The experience has left me feeling incredibly proud to be part of the NHS, and motivated to continue improving the care and rehabilitation we provide for our patients.”
