RNOH will soon be taking delivery of mini pagers funded by RNOH Charity, designed to support patients with special educational needs (SEN) and their carers during surgery.
The service is already in use with great success for children, allowing parents, carers and chaperones to be contacted immediately once a patient is safely out of theatre and in recovery. Families can wait where they feel most comfortable – taking a short rest, getting something to eat or having a drink – while staff focus on patient care.
In trials, 95% of parents reported that these call button-style pagers eased their anxiety and increased their confidence.
The new batch of pagers will allow the service to be extended to adults with SEN, helping more patients and carers experience quicker reunions and a calmer, more supportive hospital environment.
It’s a simple device making a meaningful difference, ensuring families feel connected when it matters most. Thank you for your support as we continue to make hospital stays easier for everyone.
