The Mako Appeal is live!

The Mako Appeal is live!

Posted by June Heath on 14 November 2025

Our Mako Appeal is live! It looks like a friendly robot but it’s so much more. Here’s why we’re on a mission to bring more of this cutting-edge tech to RNOH.

The Mako 4.0 is next-generation technology that will transform surgery at RNOH. Thanks to these advanced robotic systems, patients needing hip or knee replacements benefit from a high-precision, personalised surgical approach. And with demand for surgery on the rise, we’re looking to bring this level of care to as many patients as possible.

The Mako system allows surgeons to plan in 3D and position implants with greater accuracy than ever before, resulting in less tissue damage, quicker recovery and longer-lasting outcomes.

With Mako guidance, someone facing debilitating arthritis or joint degeneration can look forward to fewer days in hospital, less pain post-surgery and a faster return to daily life. Your donation to our Mako Appeal will enable RNOH to invest further in this advanced system so that more patients, regardless of their means, can access the very best care at our NHS hospital.

Beyond individual benefit, equipping RNOH with the latest Mako technology strengthens our hospital’s standing as a national centre of excellence. This will ensure RNOH surgeons remain at the cutting edge of orthopaedic treatment – for everyone – and have access to the best research facilities we can provide, benefitting patients now and into the future.

Every donation, large or small, helps make the difference of extraordinary care. With your help, we’re looking forward to putting the Mako 4.0 into action for as many patients as we can.

“Your support will fuel innovation, helping us pioneer new techniques and keep RNOH at the forefront of surgical excellence. The hospital cannot fund enough of this advanced equipment within the confines of an NHS budget so charitable support is the only way to bring the new Mako to more patients. Together, we can make sure everyone, regardless of their means, benefits from the very best care.”

Mr Simon Newman, RNOH Consultant Hip Surgeon
