This Sarcoma Awareness Month, we’re proud to share the inspiring story of Megan Skalska, an RNOH patient who turned her gratitude into generous action for RNOH Charity.
Back in January, Megan spent three weeks at RNOH, undergoing treatment for chondrosarcoma, a rare and malignant form of bone cancer that develops in cartilage cells. Because of its nature, chondrosarcoma can spread to other parts of the body, making timely and expert treatment crucial.
Thanks to the dedication of RNOH’s specialist teams and Megan’s own strength, her surgery was a success. But for Megan, her journey with RNOH wasn’t just about medical care, it was also a time of compassion and support. As Sarcoma Awareness Month approached, she knew she wanted to give back.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the care and support I received during my time there,” Megan shared.
To mark the month and show her appreciation, Megan decided to organise a personal fundraiser in honour of the hospital.
“This past weekend, in recognition of Sarcoma Awareness Month, I hosted a fundraiser where I raised money and also collected donations in person specifically for RNOH, in honour of the hospital’s role in my journey. I'm very pleased to share that I raised £1,000 for the hospital.”
Raising £1,000 is amazing, especially while still recovering. Megan’s efforts not only raised vital funds for the hospital, but also helped raise awareness of sarcoma, a lesser-known but serious cancer. Her story is a reminder of the powerful impact patients can have when they turn their experience into advocacy.
We’re incredibly touched by Megan’s thoughtfulness and determination; her fundraiser will help us continue supporting patients like her with the world-class care and attention they deserve.
Thank you, Megan, for your generosity, and for choosing to give back in such a meaningful way. We wish you continued strength and health in your recovery.
