The RNOH Charity celebrates as the Appeal reaches £4.5 million

We are delighted to announce that the Sick Children’s Trust has pledged to fund £1.6 million towards the RNOH’s new family accommodation, Princess Eugenie House. This means our Appeal fund has now reached an amazing £4,519,808 thanks to the extremely generous support of all our donors.

Mike Thompson, the Chairman of the Redevelopment Appeal, said: “We are deeply indebted to the Sick Children’s Trust - their pledge represents a significant step forward for the Appeal and for the hospital. We are also grateful for the very generous support we have received so far and are optimistic of achieving the further £10.5 million to help enhance the facilities and equipment of the new hospital into a truly world-class, innovative healthcare environment for orthopaedic patient care.”

At present, our young patients’ families come to stay at the RNOH from all around the country, but the hospital’s existing family accommodation unit was adapted from buildings designed for other purposes and is very basic and in poor condition. It is also not large enough to meet the demand for rooms, and as there are no double rooms, parents are unable to stay together. The Sick Children’s Trust’s generous pledge will enable construction to begin in July 2014 on a modern, spacious 18-bedroom unit.

Claudette Watson, The Sick Children's Trust's Chief Executive, says: "We know the recovery of seriously ill children is improved when families are able to stay together, right by their child's side. We are delighted to be working in partnership with the RNOH to build a brand new 'Home from Home,' which will enable us to support so many families who currently have to travel miles from home or stay apart while their child is being treated. For these families, Princess Eugenie House will enable them to regain some stability and comfort during the most difficult times in their lives. We are very excited to begin work on such a vital addition to the RNOH's specialist facilities."
