Sara Begg
In 2021, Sara’s father Shaun suffered a heart attack and later underwent life-saving emergency surgery for an abdominal aneurysm. He was left with spinal damage that took away the use of his legs. At just 46, Shaun’s future was uncertain. Then came RNOH.
After seven weeks of intensive rehabilitation as a Stanmore in-patient, Shaun went from being bedbound to taking his first steps. Thanks to his own sheer determination – and the amazing care at RNOH – he continues to rebuild his strength and, incredibly, can now walk unaided.
To raise funds for the hospital that changed everything for their family and where Shaun will continue to be an out-patient, Sara is running this weekend’s London Marathon. And the story doesn’t end there: Sara herself had her gallbladder removed in November 2024 and has therefore had to start from the ground up with her training. “But I reminded myself of what my dad feels every day and how far he has come, and I’ve kept going,” Sara says.
“After all the amazing work and support Stanmore gave to my dad, I had to do this for RNOH! It felt like it was meant to be! I truly think my dad is a superhero with what he has been through and I wanted to give back to RNOH for all the amazing care and treatment they have given him and continue to give him.”
Our supporters never cease to amaze us with their dedication and their kind spirit. Thank you, Sara.
