Marcus Perrineau Daley

We were thrilled to watch as RNOH patient Marcus Perrineau Daley romped home in the 100m wheelchair sprint at the 2024 Paralympic Games, bringing home a fantastic silver medal for Great Britain and marking another top coup in his life after spinal injury.

Marcus spent six months at RNOH’s Spinal Cord Injury Centre in Stanmore after a motorbike crash in 2014 that left him with a broken neck and severed spinal cord. Testament to his determination and the skills of the hospital staff, Marcus defied the odds and has gone on to have an amazing international sporting career, something that might once have sounded impossible.

“They give you life again,” Marcus said of the hospital that helped him get back on track. "My time at Stanmore was a cornerstone of my recovery. They taught me how to survive with a new life: changing clothes, lying down, being aware of your injury and self-care.”

Following his treatment and rehabilitation, Marcus qualified as a personal trainer with a focus on helping people with disabilities. He also returned to the gym and learned adapted weightlifting then wheelchair boxing. In 2020, he discovered his talent for wheelchair racing and began training, soon gaining international classification and success at home and abroad. Congratulations to you, Marcus.
