About the event

The Buttercup Walk is a sponsored 1-mile walk through the grounds of our Stanmore hospital, which is enjoyed by several hundred people every year. The attractions and entertainments on offer include:

• Children's rides
• A wide range of stalls
• A live band
• A dog show

The walk is not a race, and participants can complete some or all of the course, at their own pace and in their own way. We appreciate that some people may not feel able to undertake the walk themselves; if this is the case, you may wish to nominate someone to walk on your behalf.

Back by popular demand - RNOH Dog Show!

This year saw the return of the hugely popular Buttercup Walk Companion Dog Show. It was a great success with dogs of all shapes and sizes taking part and was run by Crufts class winner Chris King. The prizes and trophies went to some very worthy winners as you can see from our 2016 Buttercup Walk photos! See if you can spot your dog!

How does the Walk help the RNOH?

Buttercup Walk

Funds generated by the Buttercup Walk are distributed across the hospital for the direct improvement of facilities and patient care. Since its inception in 2003, the Walk has been a huge success, raising just under £500,000. Last year's walk raised enough money to fund a brand new ultrasound machine for babies and young infants, allowing the RNOH to set up its own dedicated baby hips clinic. This year's funds will again go towards improving and enhancing the patient experience.

The History of the Buttercup Walk

Buttercup Walk 1930s 1930s Our original Buttercup Day took place in the 1930s, when local children picked buttercups from the local countryside and sold them in central London to raise funds for the hospital.
Buttercup Walk 2003 2003 This fundraising tradition was revived in 2003, with the first annual Buttercup Walk.
Buttercup Walk 2011 2004-2014Since then, thousands of patients and friends of the RNOH (and several celebrities!) have taken part in the Walk.
2016This year we will be aiming to surpass the record amount of funds raised by the Walk, which stands at £47,000... but we will only be able to do so with your help! Buttercup Walk 2012
