Buttercup Appeal 2024.

The very first RNOH Buttercup Day took place in the 1930s when local children picked buttercups and sold them to raise funds for the hospital – even then RNOH’s expert team was making the impossible possible for patients, and our community wanted to show its appreciation.

The RNOH Charity strengthens the vital work of RNOH by improving the staff experience and investing in medical research. We also fund high quality equipment to create a world-class facility to enhance the patient experience. In 2003 we held our first Buttercup Walk in the grounds of the hospital in Stanmore, and almost 100 years after the first Buttercup Day, we remain true to our roots and continue to mark this wonderful day as part of our new Impossible Possible Week.

Whilst Buttercup Day 2023 has now passed, but you can still show your support – in three simple ways:

Thank you!

Purchasing your own, unique handmade buttercup sculpture designed by famous artist Clare Twomey MBE. A treat for yourself or the perfect gift for someone special.   https://thebuttercupcollection.co.uk/

Buying one of our Buttercup pin badges. Simply email rnoh.charity@nhs.net with ‘Buttercup pin’ in the subject line and we will arrange this for you.

Making a donation to show your support for the RNOH Charity, making the impossible possible every day for people with a range of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries. You are welcome to leave a note of appreciation on our Impossible Possible fundraising page – or simply the words ‘Buttercup Day’ if you prefer.

The History of the Buttercup Walk

1930s

Our original Buttercup Day took place in the 1930s, when local children picked buttercups from the local countryside and sold them in central London to raise funds for the hospital.

2003

This fundraising tradition was revived in 2003, with the first annual Buttercup Walk.

2004-2019

Since then, thousands of patients and friends of the RNOH (and several celebrities!) have taken part in the Walk.

2020 -2023

The Covid pandemic meant that the Buttercup Walk had to be paused, however we have continued to mark Buttercup Day and this year include it as part of our Impossible Possible Week.  All funds raised continue to go towards projects that enhance RNOH patients' experience.
